Topiary shape and object frames

Handmade frames for classic topiary shapes like balls, cones and spirals, and for objects such as hearts, teapots and a golfer.

A frame takes the guesswork out of clipping a geometric shape. Cones, pyramids and spirals are hard to get even by eye, but with a frame over the plant, you just trim back to the wire each time.

Classic shapes

We make balls, cones, pyramids and spirals in several sizes, from a 16cm ball for a small pot up to a 75cm cone. Box and Ilex crenata are the usual plants for these, because they clip to a tight, smooth finish. Hearts come as 3D frames and as flat 2D frames, and a heart makes a good wedding or anniversary present.

Something different

For a bit of fun, there's a teapot, a teacup and saucer, a mushroom, a cactus, a globe, a golfer and a pair of wooden clogs. The cannon, crossed hammers and valiant sword are larger sculptures that you can also buy ready grown. If you have a shape in mind that isn't here, get in touch and we can talk about making it.

Growing a shape

Plant a young evergreen with small leaves, put the frame over it and trim back to the wire two or three times each summer. Frames come bare as standard, and most can be ordered with a mesh covering or a plant fitted. Frames are made to order and usually dispatched within a week.
