Description
Portuguese laurel makes a fine evergreen hedge with dense bushy growth and glossy dark green leaves which have red stalks. During early summer fragrant white flowers are borne in long racemes. These are followed by dark red inedible berries. Also useful in borders or as a specimen plant. It is a member of the rose family and the Royal Horticultural Society have given it their Award of Garden Merit.
