Ananas comosus
Pineapple Plant
1L 15-20cm

Out of stock

The pineapple is indigenous to South America. It’s introduction into Europe in the 17th Century made it a significant cultural icon of luxury.

It’s a great plant to look at thanks to it’s thick spiny leaves which are present all year round as it’s an evergreen. In summer it produces clusters of purple flowers, with reddish-yellow bracts, followed by pineapples!

As a tropical plant it loves moisture in the air but the roots hate having too much water. The trick is to water regularly but moderately. It doesn’t require a lot of water. It likes adequate light but not direct sun.

Add a touch of much-needed tropical warmth to your home with this small Pineapple plant.

Part of the Bromeliad plant family native to Tropical America it has swordlike spiny green leaves, held in a dense rosette, with the fruit held in the centre on a sturdy stalk.

The Ananas comosus produces a single ornamental fruit at the centre of its delicately coloured foliage. When the pineapple drops off, it's unlikely to produce a new one, but you should get pups in the soil which you can re-pot and grow into whole new plants.

Hardiness: Tender (indoors only) Prefers temperatures above 15'c.
